On
Monday we were joined by the extremely talented poet, Helen Mort and a
thoroughly engaged audience.
Helen read from her acclaimed collection Division
Street, bringing to life poetry about people and places, often well known
to our Sheffield audience, yet somehow opening a window to the unseen.
Still
in her twenties but recently surging to national significance, it was a
pleasure to hear works rooted in the rocks, roads and pubs of Sheffield and
nearby Derbyshire.
Helen’s poetry captures something of the essence of
Sheffield, both with its grit and its warmth. New and yet familiar; it’s
a pleasure to read and a delight to hear.
