Free family workshops from Sheffield Libraries and friends

Ignite Imaginations – Marvellous Makers Art Workshops.


Come along to one of the art workshops taking place on the following dates. Suitable for children 7-12 years. All children must be accompanied by a parent/carer or other responsible adult and supervised at all times.

Places are limited so booking is essential so contact the relevant library to book your space.

Friday 9th August.

Parson Cross Library 10.30-12.30pm. Stories in Clay.

Choose a book and create a character and practise modelling skills with air drying clay.

Firth Park Library 2.00-4.00pm. Make Your Own Rainbow Fish.

Create an embossed fish swimming in a collage sea.  Inspired by the well-loved story of The Rainbow Fish.

Monday 12th August.

Highfield Library 10.30-12.30pm. 10.30-12.30pm. Pocket Monsters.

Join us for a bit of creative writing and clay art and build your very own monster…. small enough to fit in your pocket!

Hillsborough Library 2.00-4.00pm. Weaving Workshop.

Come and explore weaving skills with different natural materials.  We will made a frame from natural materials and weave in gathered flowers/leaves/stems and leaf print on to the fabric to add to the weaving.

Monday 19th August.

Crystal Peaks Library 10.30-12.30pm. Storybook Adventure.

Be inspired by beautiful illustrations to create your own book and lead character. We will explore mark making techniques to make a simple book; bringing it to life with our own peg character.

Manor Library 2.00-4.00pm. Imaginative World!

Use your imagination to create your own world, based on books that you love. We will use a mixture of cardboard, clay, wool and a variety of other craft materials to bring your world to life.

All materials for the above activities will be provided.


Amazelab Story Diorama Workshops








Join Amazelab for a fun filled craft workshop, suitable for children aged 4-12 years of age.  There is no charge for this event but as places are limited booking with the appropriate library is essential.

All children must be accompanied and supervised throughout the activity by a parent/carer or other responsible adult.

The workshops will start with children and their families exploring the library looking for their favourite stories or discovering something new. They will then select key points in the story which will be firstly recreated on a storyboard and then transformed into a diorama – a model representing a scene in miniature with three dimensional figures.

CHaOS Roadshows


Science Roadshows delivered by CHaOS (Cambridge Hands-On Science). 

Have you ever wondered what sound looks like, how a rocket works, or what’s inside your body?

Cambridge Hands-On Science (CHaOS) is touring the UK this summer, with a team of friendly Cambridge students and hands-on experiments to answer these questions and many more!

Join them for FREE days of family friendly fun at Manor Library, Hillsborough and Central Children's Library (details below). All children must be accompanied and supervised by a parent, carer or responsible adult at all times. These are drop in sessions so no need to book. 

Manor Library on Monday 12th August from 11am — 4pm.

Hillsborough Library on Tuesday 13th August from 11am — 4pm.

Central Children's Library on Wednesday 14th August 11am - 4pm.

Meet the author event - Terrie Chilvers author of Michael the Amazing Mind-Reading Sausage Dog

Join children’s author Terrie Chilvers at Highfield and Woodseats Librarieis for a reading from her book about a mind-reading sausage dog, followed by a creative workshop where children will get the chance to create their own superstar animals.

This FREE event is suitable for children aged 5 to 10 but places are limited so booking with the relevant library is essential. All children attending must be accompanied and supervised during the activity by a parent or carer or other responsible adult.

Michael The Amazing Mind-Reading Sausage Dog is written by Terrie Chilvers, illustrated by Tim Budgen and published by Firefly Press. It is one of the Marvellous Makers (Summer Reading Challenge 2024) recommended reads and is the story of Michael – an ambitious dog with a rare talent…mind reading!

Free Road Safety Drop-in Sessions

Come and join the Road Safety Team for a fun filled and interactive activity! Suitable for children and families of all ages. All children must be accompanied and supervised by a parent, carer or responsible adult at all times. These are drop in sessions so no need to book.
