Service Updates

Sheffield Libraries Services and Opening Hours

Notice
The public access computers will not be available from Tuesday 12th October through to Saturday 16th October, inclusive, while new PCs are being installed.

We look forward to offering our customers an improved IT experience from Monday 18th October.

Sheffield Libraries, Archives and Information Service
- From Monday August 23rd.

We are very pleased to announce that from Monday 23rd August we are relaxing some of the restrictions that are currently in place in our buildings.

  • There will be no limit on the number of customers who can enter the building.
  • The QR codes will still be available but there is no requirement for you to give your personal details to staff.
  • Current opening times will remain as they are for now. However, whilst open you may stay in the building for as long as you like.
  • Tables and chairs will be replaced, so that you can use the library as a study space.
  • Soft seating will be reintroduced gradually, so that you can sit in comfort.
  • Public Toilets will be reopened.
  • Cash payments may now be accepted, so if you have outstanding charges on your library account, you may pay these off.
  • No new fines will be applied until 31st December 2021, although we will return to informing you if your books are overdue.
  • There will no longer be any free printing or copying, the normal charges will apply.
  • Where possible we will try to increase the number of computers available, but the one hour time period will remain to give as many customers the opportunity to book a session.
  • Where we have received approval, a limited number of events may be held. Further information will appear on our Blog and Social Media.

Whilst we are trying to get back to a more normal service, we are very mindful that the pandemic is still with us. We will still be providing hand sanitiser and wipes, and advise customers to wear a face covering.  Masks will be available if you require one. Staff will be wearing face coverings and may serve you from behind the Perspex screens, as they are socially distancing.  Anyone who has Covid symptoms should stay at home and book a test.

For those customers who remain reluctant to come into the Library, the Order and Collect Service will still be provided.

Thank you for being so patient and we hope to see our loyal long standing customers again, along with many more new Library users.

Events and activities

All our events and activities will continue to operate online, until we receive updated Covid guidance, which permits us to offer these safely in the library.

For the latest updates on upcoming activities check out our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter, and our Eventbrite page.

You can also view recent recordings of events on our YouTube channel.

eLibrary open 24/7

We continue to provide online library services via our eLibrary and a simple registration process to become a member click here.  The eLibrary contains a large range of eBooks, eMagazines, eAudiobooks, and eComics.  These services are available free of charge to library members.

Home Library Service

We are now providing home library service deliveries in our new electric van. The service delivers to any Sheffield resident who is unable to get to their local library and has no-one to help them do so, or who may be able to get to the library but cannot carry the books they’ve chosen.
We can also offer the service on a temporary basis, for example whilst someone is recovering from an operation. For more information about this service customers can call 0114 273 4277 or email Mobileservices.Library@sheffield.gov.uk
