Service Updates

Sheffield Libraries Order and Collect Services Timetable

Sheffield Libraries Order and Collect service is currently operating at 8 Council run ‘Hub’ libraries and Central Library.

These libraries have been identified as those with the highest lending rates. As staffing resources allow, we will progress Order and Collect services to all our libraries and extend opening hours where possible.

Some Volunteer Libraries are also currently offering an Order and Collect service. For further details visit Volunteer Libraries in Sheffield

This is part of Phase 1 of restarting Sheffield Library Services which is focused on minimum contact services.

What is the Order and Collect Service?

The Order and Collect Service is for customers wishing to receive a pack of 5 books selected for them by library staff at one of 5 libraries across the city plus Central Library, based on their preferences for genre submitted by online form , email or phone.  Contact details for the libraries can be found on the City Council webpage.

It is a minimum contact service. Customers will place their order and then collect a bag of 5 items (Books, DVD, Audio book, graphic novels etc) for either adults of children from the foyer or an external door of the library. They will also be able to return books they have had on loan.

Note - All due dates have been extended until the 30th November.  No fines have been charged during lockdown.

Unfortunately people will not be able to place reservations at this time. This service will be reinstated once all libraries are open. Although they can ask for specific titles if it’s in stock at that library.

Central Library Computer Suite

From Monday 21st September, we will be offering limited access to the computers in the Central Library Computer Suite. You will need to book an appointment by telephone on 0114 273 4764  before you visit, and the maximum time available will be one hour per day.

Limited printing facilities and use of the scanner will be available.  Due to social distancing, staff will be unable to offer support, but there will be printed information available.

If you require assistance to enter the building please advise the staff when you make your booking.  Please remember to bring your library card with you and wear a face covering whilst you are in the building.

When will browsing be available and computer use in more libraries?

Our library buildings have been closed for a number of months and each one is required to be risk assessed and checked for Covid-19 safety. This requires a team from Property and Facilities Management to assess the layout of each library and install protective screens, signage and sanitiser stations.

There will be a lead in time required to complete the Covid-19 safety surveys and install the required safety measures before book browsing and public access computer use can commence.   We will advise customers and staff as soon as we have dates for reopening of all libraries.

Can't get to the library?  Try our online services...

We continue to provide online library services via our eLibrary and a simple registration process to become a member click here.  The eLibrary contains a large range of eBooks, eMagazines, eAudiobooks, and eComics.  These services are available free of charge to library members.

We also have a growing list of online events for both adults and children.  For the latest updates on upcoming activities check our our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter, and our Eventbrite page.
